How to control IBD(Gumboro disease) -illness that can lead to complete death of all farm chickens.

IBD.

(Gumboro disease)

An illness that can lead to the complete death of all farm chickens.

IBD. -Cause of disease, infection, prevention, and treatment. Read here...

On someone's farm, if it had come to IBD, the ordeal that the farmer would have endured would have been terrible.

There may have been a lot of efforts to reduce the death rate.

Sometimes the farm itself is empty without a reduction in mortality. For so long, all the savings from the poultry farm have been spent on IBD. There will also be farmers who have been taken away.

Because IBD breaks down the Immunity of chicken completely. With this, many other diseases are affected very quickly.

One reason for this is that an effective, accurate treatment method is not accepted widely, but you can read about the effective treatment options on farms in this article.

However, The enthusiasm showed by our farmers in measures to prevent IBD is very low.

The disease was first diagnosed in Gamboro, USA, hence the name Gamboro Disease.

IBD The causative agent.

A Virus  belonging to the Birnaviridae family named as IBD Virus

How does it spread ??

IBD Infected chickens are is expelled the virus with feces and other secretions.  These viruses reach our farms through the air, through human contact, or through the transfer of equipment. The disease can be spread not only from other farms but also from other agricultural farms, which they are using poultry manure.

How to prevent

1.Vaccination.

Because parent chickens provide the necessary vaccinations to the chicks. Babies can be immunized against IBD disease for up to 14 days (Via maternal antibodies)

So 12 days before IBD Vaccination can be counterproductive (viruses in the vaccine can destroy the maternal antibodies)

There are two vaccines of IBD In broiler chickens, the intermediate vaccine is given on the 14th day and the intermediate plus vaccine is given on the 28th day.

Do these vaccinations exactly will help us to control the diseases.

Nowadays vector vaccines are available, they can be given in-ovo at 18 days old egg in hatchery

Vectored vaccines  express the IBDV VP2 protein in herpesvirus of turkeys (HVT) are used in-ovo or at hatch, one day old chicks. These HVT-IBD vaccines are not affected by maternal antibodies so safe to use in Hatchery and day old chicks. Vaccines that use live-attenuated viruses bound to antibodies (immune-complex vaccines) are also available for in-ovo or at hatch administration.

2).Biosecurity.

through the Virus can spread through the wind, We need to be more vigilant about biosecurity as it spreads.

The steps to be taken by the farmers and the cost involved.

1. Avoid visitors to farms completely, especially If we find out any farm nearby infected by IBD, do not let anyone enter the farm and we should not go near the farm.

Cost: Rs. 100

“For the health of the chickens, do not enter without permission” Put up a sign saying Biosecurity Area

2. If you notice the use of chicken manure in a nearby farm, spray our farm and surroundings with a disinfectant solution for 3 days.

Cost: Rs.400 Maximum for 1000 birds

3. Use special clothing and footwear on the farm.

Buy a Rs 100 sandal and a Rs 300 t-shirt for the employees,

4. It is the farmers, not the workers, who spread the disease the most. We should take off our clothes and shoes and wear farm clothes and shoes. Buy a special dress and shoes for us.

5. Wear special footwear on the farm and soak your feet in the disinfectant solution.

6. Wear farm clothes and shoes and spray the body with disinfectant. For small farmers, the spray used on the farm is enough, and for those who have more chickens, place human spray at the entrance of the farm compound...

7. Always wash your hands with disinfectant or soap.

8. Do not bring equipment from other farms. Or spray disinfectant when you bring.

9. Spray the disinfectant on the vehicles carrying the feed

Those who have more birds arrange a vehicle dip, in this add disinfectant water it sinks the tire.

10. Spray the disinfectant inside the shed once in ten days, without hitting the chicken head directly, at half the height of the shed, or at the height of our chest, in the air

Spraying directly on the chicken's head can sometimes trigger Respiratory issues.

11. It is beneficial to give tonics that enhance the immunity of the chickens

Symptoms.

Ruffled feather on the back of the chicken's neck is the first sign of any infection, but it can be any illness.

The first symptom is a decrease in feed intake, after which the chickens begin droopiness., there will be  high  fever and high temperature on touching, then white diarrhea begins,

After one or two days of not being able to take feed and water, the bird bends one leg and dies by touching beaks  into the litter

 Therapeutic.

As it is a viral infection widely accepted Effective treatment has not been found yet.

With the damage to the bursa and kidney, the immune system of the chicken is completely destroyed. This can lead to invading other bacterial and viral infections, especially E. coli  and Newcastle Disease

Both of these are diseases that await opportunity in most of the poultry farms

Antibiotics are very effective in preventing secondary bacterial infections. But only antibiotics that are selected by the veterinarian after determining which internal organ is most affected by doing postmortem, will only be effective.

Giving the Lasota vaccine against Newcastle disease for IBD infected farms helps to prevent the invasion by Newcastle disease and increase the body's general cell-mediated immunity of less infected or not- infected birds.

In the case of disease, disinfectants should be sprayed in the air for 4 consecutive days in increased concentration.

Fumigation.

Infected farms should be vacated for at least 15 days before the next batch of chickens is unloaded.

Only after fumigation with potassium permanganate and formalin should the chicken be unloaded. In addition, other cleaning activities should be done

If it is strongly protected from the inside and outside of the chicken body, IBD will lie outside the farms. Otherwise, our savings will lie outside.

Only accurate biosecurity standards, vaccinations and modern, scientific management methods can save us.
